Perspective taking as a predictor of burnout among competitive adolescent squash players

Athlete burnout (ABO) has been identified as a significant concern among youth sportspeople. Conceptualisations of self, or perspective taking, predict mental health non-athlete adolescents. Consequently, this study aimed to determine how much perspective-taking contributes ABO adolescent athletes. A non-experimental correlational design was employed explore the utility three selves model ABO. One-hundred and sixty-five competitive squash players were recruited via convenience sampling. Participants completed measures ABO, Self-as-Content, Self-as-Process Self-as-Context. Regression analyses three-selves in predicting sample. All components positively associated with negatively correlated Furthermore, Self-as-Content independently predicted reduced sense athletic accomplishment greater sport devaluation. Reduced physical emotional exhaustion only by Self-as-Process. Contrary existing theoretical empirical literature, Self-as-Context emerged predictor accomplishment.
